MCCFA AND CONCORD HOSPITALITY ANNOUNCE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW DAYTON CONVENTION CENTER HEADQUARTER HOTEL
With the hotel set to join Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio Hotel collection, the Transformation Continues in the Convention District
The Montgomery County Convention Facilities Authority (MCCFA) and Concord Hospitality are pleased to announce that its highly anticipated headquarters hotel will be flagged as part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio Hotels brand, a distinctive collection of independent hotels. The project will be developed and operated by Concord Hospitality, an award- winning hospitality firm with a strong track record of delivering high-quality, full-service hotels nationwide.
The new headquarters hotel will serve as a cornerstone of the evolving Dayton Convention District, directly supporting the Dayton Convention Center and strengthening the region’s ability to attract large-scale meetings, conventions, and events in a unified campus. As a Tribute Portfolio property, the hotel will combine the benefits of Marriott’s global reservation system and loyalty network with a design-forward, locally inspired guest experience that reflects the character and energy of Dayton.
In September 2024, through a public bid process, the MCCFA Board of Directors approved the selection of Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company as the developer of a full- service, nationally branded headquarters hotel located at the “city plaza” on S. Jefferson Street, between E. Fifth and Stone Streets.
“This $77 million transformative investment represents a major milestone for Dayton and our convention district. Partnering with Concord Hospitality and Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio brand ensures we are delivering a high-quality, unique hotel experience that will elevate our competitive position and drive significant economic impact for the region.” said Pam Plageman, Executive Director/CEO, of the MCCFA.
“As a part of the Dayton market for more than 20 years, we at Concord are excited to partner with the MCCFA and Destination Dayton to further the vision of the Convention District with an elevated full-service hotel which speaks to the spirit of Dayton. The Tribute Portfolio brand brings Marriott's global network and loyalty platform and together with a thoughtful design, quality delivery and passionate guest service will deliver to meeting planners, business travelers and others visiting Dayton an unforgettable experience” commented Mark Laport, President & CEO of Concord Hospitality.
Concord Hospitality brings deep expertise in developing and managing hotels that balance brand standards with local identity—an approach that aligns with the Tribute Portfolio’s emphasis on individuality and storytelling. Together, the collaboration is expected to deliver a destination hotel that becomes both a hub for convention activity and a vibrant part of Dayton’s urban core.
In addition to offering modern guest accommodations, the property will feature 197 guest rooms, flexible meeting and event space, a restaurant serving 3 meal periods at 5th and Jefferson Streets, fitness center, and amenities designed to serve both convention visitors and the broader community. Its location next to the Dayton Convention Center and attached parking garage will enhance the city’s ability to host multi-day events, regional conventions, and national gatherings that require convenient room blocks and integrated meeting infrastructure.
The project is the result of strong collaboration among public partners, private developers, hospitality leaders, and community stakeholders who share a vision for the continued growth of downtown Dayton and the broader convention district strategy aimed at enhancing Dayton’s appeal as a regional and national destination for meetings and tourism. Upon opening in late 2028, the hotel will significantly expand the city’s ability to host concurrent events and capture previously unattainable group business.
“The headquarters hotel, under the Tribute Portfolio flag, is a transformational investment for the Dayton region and a critical asset in strengthening our ability to compete for meetings and conventions nationwide,” said John Oney, President & CEO of Destination Dayton. “As the destination marketing organization for Dayton and Montgomery County, Ohio, our focus is on driving measurable results by increasing group and convention room nights that directly benefit our local hotels, venues, and businesses. With modern accommodations connected to our newly renovated Dayton Convention Center and convention campus, we will be able to attract larger, city-wide events, increase overnight visitation, and generate new economic activity throughout the community. As the Dayton convention district continues to evolve, this project will help drive sustained tourism growth and create lasting benefits for the region for years to come.”
“Today marks an important milestone for our community and for the future of tourism and economic development in Montgomery County,” said Belinda Kenley, Board Chairperson of the MCCFA. “The announcement of the Marriott Tribute branded headquarters hotel represents a transformational investment that will create approximately 90 permanent new jobs and more than 300 construction-related jobs, while generating an estimated $1.2 million annually in new sales tax revenue to help support essential community services. This project strengthens our ability to attract conventions, visitors, and new business opportunities, while delivering long-term economic benefits for residents throughout the region.”
“Carrying a global brand name with Marriott, this headquarters hotel is a unique, transformative project for the City of Dayton and a powerful statement about the forward momentum of our downtown,” said Turner-Sloss, Mayor of the City of Dayton. “By creating new jobs, attracting visitors, and supporting local businesses, this development will strengthen our economy and enhance the vibrancy of our urban core and surrounding neighborhoods. The investment and collaboration behind this project reflect a shared commitment to building stronger, more connected communities that benefit residents, businesses, and visitors for generations to come.”
“This project is an investment not only in downtown Dayton, but in the long-term economic vitality of Montgomery County,” said Carolyn Rice, Montgomery County Commission President. “This Tribute Portfolio -brand headquarters hotel is the first of its kind in our region. It will create jobs, attract visitors from across the country and generate new revenue to support vital public services. We are proud to support a project that strengthens our community, encourages investment and positions Montgomery County for continued growth.”

ABOUT THE MCCFA
In 1973, the Dayton Convention Center opened and was owned/operated by the City of Dayton. Transfer of ownership to the Montgomery County Convention Facilities Authority (aka “MCCFA” and “the Authority”) took place on April 1, 2021. Established by the Montgomery County Board of County Commissioners pursuant to Chapter 351.02 of the Ohio Revised Code, the MCCFA is a special governmental unit.
As owner of convention facilities, the MCCFA is responsible for the improvement, investment, management, and successful operation. In addition, the MCCFA is an advocate for ensuring the continued success and growth of the convention business within Montgomery County. Both responsibilities are directly linked to the MCCFA’s investment in and support of services, resources, facilities, and community projects that enhance the use and improvement of the convention center district.
The MCCFA is funded by a 3% hotel/motel occupancy lodging tax and receives the City of Dayton 3% lodging tax collections. These revenues are utilized to renovate the DCC, fund operations, and improve the convention district. The goal of the MCCFA and its partners is to attract conventions to bring out-of-town tourists to the region and generate an economic impact throughout Montgomery County.
The City of Dayton owns the real estate on which the center is situated and holds a ground lease with the Authority. The Authority governs the center through the MCCFA Board of Directors, made up of 11 members, appointed by Montgomery County, the City of Dayton, and the Mayors and Managers Association. The board was established in November 2019.
